When Deyvion was still a baby, a fire broke out in the apartment where he was sleeping, leaving him with severe injuries. The months and years that followed were filled with intense medical care. He spent a long time in a specialized burn unit, where doctors worked tirelessly to save his life and give him the chance to grow up.

After 2,545 days on his own, Deyvion’s life took a major turn. A single mother of two, Beth Plunkett, welcomed him into her home. She first became his foster mom, caring for him for two years, and then recently made it official by adopting him.

The South Metro Fire Department in Raymore came to celebrate with him, giving him a special jacket and hat made just for him. They even drove him and his mom to court in a firetruck, turning the adoption day into a moment of pride, celebration, and closure.
